This bag was handmade in Nigeria. The sides, straps, and clasp are made of a unique leather found in the Kano region. These elements are hand stitched to the front and back, which are made from straw mats that are a cultural staple. There is also a handle so this bag doubles as a hand bag. Each bag is unique in its making, so allow for slight differences in the final product.

Growing up with these straw mats in my home, I’d always thought they would make a beautiful purse. On one of my trips to Nigeria, I decided to see the idea through, and it became my every day handbag. I never thought of selling them until strangers started coming up to me asking where I got the bag! I love the idea of sharing the beauty and artistry of where my family is from.
