The title of this painting probably sums up what this painting means to me. However, for the sake of vulnerability I’ll share my thoughts about this piece. I sketched this image right onto the canvas. Usually I’ll sketch in a sketch book and transfer over once I really have the image just the way I like it but this time I went right to the canvas with this idea. I saw this image in my mind. A woman, routed to the floors and yearning for what’s through the window. It came after some self-reflection. I’ve always felt torn when it comes to my history. The question becomes should I stay rooted if the house is breaking or fly away? It’s about the roots that hold us up vs. the roots that hold us down.
